In the ‘DERP news’ category, we have an article about how TV is bad for babies under the age of 2. This is a decent article, but it’s not great.

The problem with this article is that it focuses on the element and takes away from the actual environment the parents have created. Nancy Shute is merely touching brushing by and farting on the subject AND she gets PAID TO WRITE THESE ARTICLES.

“Babies who watched 60 minutes of TV daily had developmental scores one-third lower at 14 months than babies who weren’t watching that much TV.”

No sh*t.

And it’s not like the babies are consciously making a uniformed decision to turn on South Park or Modern Family (which would actually be amazing btw). The TV is not taking requests from the baby and deciding to act irresponsibly in order to be a bad influence to the kid.

The TV is innocent here. Take away the TV and the parent(s) will substitute in another distraction and neglect their child in yet another way.

Moral of this post is, take articles like this with a grain of salt. Apply it to your own circumstance and learn from other people’s sh*tty parenting skills. And for f*ck’s sake, give a sh*t and just try to maintain a well rounded existence for your little future zombie.
