New York Fathers Honored in ‘NYC Dads – The Mayor’s Fatherhood Initiative’
Just before 2010’s Father’s Day, New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg launched a program called NYC Dads – The Mayor’s Fatherhood Initiative. Last week, Mayor Bloomberg, along with New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, honored 10 fathers who have been positive parental influences, despite any hardships they’ve endured.
Bloomberg also called on city agencies to “conduct an extensive review of their programs, policies and frontline practices to ensure that fathers were not being unintentionally excluded from or missing opportunities to engage in their children’s lives,” according to the National League of Cities article linked below.
The New York City Housing Authority, New York Public Library, and New York Department of Corrections are just three of the city agencies to increase their fatherhood-awareness and create family-friendly policies.
