Ian Wilson wants the Taliban to know that he forgives them for crippling his son, Royal Engineer James Wilson.

James was on his first tour through Afghanistan. The 29 year old was defusing a roadside bomb when it detonated and injured his legs. Later, they had to be amputated, the right one below the knee and left one above.

Ian Wilson served in the UK’s Territorial Army, and according to the Daily Mail, “is using an Army translator to write a message to insurgents to leave at the spot where his son James almost died.”

If the story isn’t already sad enough for you, Ian’s other son, Stuart Wilson, was killed in 1997 in Bosnia when his fuel tanked fell into a ravine, trying to avoid a crash.

Ian Wilson is a good father, and hopefully never has to think about writing a letter like this again.
