App: Toca Hair Salon 2 Is Out, Is Delightful

Toca Hair Salon 2

We love the apps (they call ’em “digital toys”) from Toca Boca. They’re all so fun – for both our children and us – and don’t contain third party ads, in-app purchases or confusing menus that trip kids up.

Toca Hair Salon 2 came out yesterday and is a blast, even if you already own both previous iterations: Toca Hair Salon and Toca Hair Salon Christmas Gift.

Pimpin’ Just Got Easier! – Review of “Pimp My Ultrasound” App On iPhone

You’re probably not too interested ever to hear talk about your little bundle of joy mixed up with talk about pimpin’, but hear me out. The Pimp My Ultrasound iPhone app by 2 Wise Guys, LLC is a fun and simple photo-enhancement tool that you will get at least as much fun out of as you get from your iPhone lightsaber (admit it dude…we all have it).

The Pimp My Ultrasound iPhone app, named in the spirit of the MTV show, Pimp my…never mind, you know what they named it after… Well it’s a really fun app for parents expecting their first child, or their next child (or their next after that) who are tired of looking at the same fuzzy black-and-white images of skeletal babies in the womb.

The app is VERY simple and intuitive to use. It allows you to upload images quickly from your phone and modify them with objects from different menus to customize your ultrasound photo in different ways. It includes objects such as hats and glasses, which can be drug around the image, and adjusted for size with the well-practiced “pinch” technique. The objects can also be rotated easily with finger movements. Other objects menus include a variety of accessories, ranging from a rock guitar to a diamond-encrusted gold medallion. You know, everything you’ll need to “pimp out” the earliest photos you have of your little pumpkin…

AllRecipes.com On The iPhone

My wife went into full on nesting/baking mode during the last week of her pregnancy. We were kicking back on Labor Day weekend while she was browsing for some different cooking applications on her iPhone. She wanted to try an app that could make searching for recipes a little less stressful and more portable when we would have our little one around.

I floated her my original-gangster 3G not too long ago (which she loves – and is consequently bat-sh*t slow compared to the iPhone 4). She decided that she was going to nest and turn out some bomb-ass cookies, 39 weeks into her pregnancy (I said that she was nesting, she had no idea what she was doing).

Keep in mind that this Allrecipes.com app is not only for parents or pregnant womens. This is just a really awesome app to have, whether you know how to cook or not. All you need is the time and a little reading comprehension. And money.. or food stamps. OR a really nice relative or friend with money. Or a personal chef. Preferably one with an iPhone.

Zoodles Kid-Safe Browsing Hits Android Phones (And You Don’t End Up in Jail, Etc.)

Let’s run through a scenario – you’re at the grocery store, and your kid is going ape. You’re trying to find an empty isle so you can shake him (because we at 8BitDad don’t believe in hitting), but it’s Saturday and all the isles are packed. You start up a game on your chosen cellular device, and hand it to your child. It doesn’t matter if they know how to play Solitaire or not – it will keep him occupied for just enough time to — hey wait a second! He just called 911…
