A father dressed as Spider-man scaled over the railing of a bridge in England, intending to hang from it – all in the name of father’s rights.
The protestor, a member of “Fathers 4 Justice”, climbed over the railing of a bridge in Taunton, England yesterday, tying a sign to the railing that said, among other things, “stop failing our children.”
French ministers have promised talks with father’s rights groups after a father spent more than three days over the weekend on top of a crane protesting the custodial loss of his son.
The father, Serge Charnay, had lost custody of his son after being accused of kidnapping him. His son, born in 2006, has been without Charnay for two years. Charnay scaled up the 40-meter-high crane in a Nantes shipyard and hung a banner saying “Benoit, two years without a dad” and spray painting the phrase “sauver nos enfants de la justice” above his perch.
Two lawmakers, Lisa Brown and Barb Byrum, were recently banned from speaking in the Michigan House of Representatives after arguing against a piece of legislation that contained a bunch of essentially anti-woman program cuts and abortion restrictions. The legislation itself raised some concern in Michigan because it was being rushed through at the last legislative minute, but things really got kicked off when the news came out that these women had been silenced for speaking their minds. This spurred an event called, “Vaginas Take Back the Capitol!”
Since you don’t actually have to have a vagina to help vaginas take back the capitol, my son and I attended the event, and I discovered that babies make awesome activists.

Breaking news from the 8BitDad news wire: the UK dad group “New Fathers 4 Justice” are arranging a rally in front of British Secretary of State for Justice Kenneth Clarke’s house. The rally is set for Saturday, January 28 – which is in 24 hours or less, depending on which side of the pond you’re on.
New Fathers 4 Justice are known for rallying in favor of father’s rights – and usually, their protests consist of wearing superhero costumes and climbing to the roof of someone’s office. This time around, costumes are encouraged, and protestors are to bring purple flags, whistles, drums and whatever “loudhailers” are. Us yanks assume it’s a cross between a bullhorn and an inhaler. More deets after the hop.
A group of fathers holding a peaceful protest at Israel’s Bar Ilan University were made to leave the scene after the police was called on them.
Outside of the Ninth Annual Conference on “Women, Law and Family in Israel” at the university’s Rackman Center for the Advancement of Women’s Status, the fathers gave out flyers and held up signs that explained their complaints: “A woman is worth no less and no more than a man” and “A man is worth no more and no less than a woman,” read some of the signs.
The real argument was that this conference is seen as biased and anti-father. The conference begins with closed-doors talks by what the fathers say are militant feminists, and only social workers will be in attendance. The feminists support the Tender Years Clause, which automatically awards mothers custody of children in the event of a divorce. The social workers in attendance, the protestors say, will be given only one side of the custody issue – one that supports the automatic custody award to the mother.
Israel is said to be the last country in the world that still enforces the Tender Years Clause.
